Sri Lanka is introducing you to a huge scale of activity holidays, such as water based activities like diving and snorkeling, surfing, white water rafting, water sports (canoeing, speed boats, jet-ski, banana boat, deep sea fishing, and water skiing.

 


 
Where you can do diving and snorkeling?
  • West coast – November to April
    Bentota, Beruwala, Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna and Weligama
  • East cost – May to October
    Nelaveli, Pigeon Island

 

Note: Best places for snorkeling – Pigeon island at Nelaveli and Hikkaduwa (These two are marine national parks in Sri-Lanka)

 


 

Surfing: Many of the waves which crash against the Sri-Lankan coast have travelled all the way from Antarctica, and not surprisingly there are several excellent surfing spots. The outstanding destination is Arugam Bay on the east coast, the one place in Sri-Lanka with an international reputation amongst surf heads. The low-key south coast village of Midigama is another good spot, while Hikkaduwa is also popular.

 

Note: Surf season run from April to October at Arugam Bay, and from November to April at Midigama and Hikkaduwa.

 


 

White water rafting and other water sports: The island’s premier spot for white water rafting is around Kithulgala, where the Oscar winning movie was filmed called “The Bride on the river kuwai”. Sri-Lankas water sports capital is Bentota, whose lagoon provides the perfect venue for all sorts of activities, including jet-skiing, wind surfing, speed-boating, waterskiing, inner-tubing, and banana-boating.

 


 

Trekking: The hill country, in particular, offers the perfect hiking terrain – spectacular scenery, marvelous views and a pleasantly temperate climate – while trekking through the wildlife-rich lowland jungles can also be a deeply rewarding experience. Locations for trekking and hiking: Udawatha kele in Kandy, Knuckles range, Horton plains, Kithulgala, Sinharaja rain forest, Belihul oya and Babarakanda falls.

 


 

Cycling: So long as you avoid the hazardous main highways, Cycling around Sri-Lanka can be a real pleasure and a welcome change from setting in a stuffy car. For serious cyclists, the island’s modest dimensions and scenic diversity offer the perfect ingredients for a varied tour on two wheels.

 


 

Routes for cycling: Explore ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa village tour (15Kms). Sigiriy/Bandarawela/Belihul-Oya

 

Note: The hill country locations offer a number of steeper trails for mountain bikes. This is only suitable for the more experience mountain bikers. Also we can arrange the trips one place to another (luggage transport by support vehicle). Let us know what would like to do in Sri-Lanka. We’ll arrange that.

 


 

Other activities: A couple of companies offer spectacular balloon trips around Sigiriya/Kandalama and over Udawalawa national park.

Horse-riding: Day trips and longer tours can be arranged through Sri-Lanka at various locations around the island, including Bentota, Yala, Kandy and Sigiriya.

 


 

Golf: Sri-Lanka has three gorgeous Golf courses, at Colombo, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya.

 


 

Cricket: Cricket is the most popular sport in Sri-Lanka, but Volley ball is the national sport in Sri-Lanka. The Sri-Lankan national cricket team achieved the considerable success beginning in the 1990s, rising from the underdog status to winning the 1996 cricket word cup. The Sri-Lankan cricket team reached the final of the 2007 cricket world cup, where they lost to Australia at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. After qualifying to play in the finals of the 2011 cricket world cup, Sri-Lanka beaten by India. The legendary Sri-Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan also ended his incredible career at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which hosted the 2011 cricket world cup final. The national team of Sri-Lanka has won the Asia cup in 1986, 1997, 2004, and 2008.
